Corporate bookmakers love throwing around same race multi promotions, and this is great news for you! They are some of the most profitable promotions, and here is how you can exploit them.

The same race multi promotion has been a staple promotion of bookies. It is an incredibly simple promotion, where you have your money returned if you have a 3+ leg multi and one leg loses.

They have an incredibly high expected value, and once you learn how to utilise them, then you are set to make a lot of very easy money, that is, if you can stomach the short term variance.

How do I do it?

There likely are not many promotions that require less thought when implementing than the SRM bet return offer.

I simply just find the three runners with the lowest odds and then bet on them to place in the top 4.

Really, over the course of a promotion, you are just trying to break even with the payouts, and the returns come from the bonus bet returns. If there was simply a positive expected value from the actual SRM, then I would just be betting on them.

The odds generally vary from around 1.80 when there is only a small field of runners, to up to above 14.00 when there is a large amount of runners.

I don’t pay attention to the odds, and simply trust the maths that since we are essentially only risking money on two legs while getting the payout of three legs, you are bound to make a profit over the long run.

Can you lay it?

You may be thinking that there could be a way to lay the SRM and try and lock in a profit, but in reality, if you try laying, you are just setting yourself up to make some massive losses.

Just imagine that you had placed a lay bet on all of the top 3 favourites, and placed a SRM bet on those three too. Now if two of them got in the top 3, but the other came last, then you have lost two lay bets, the SRM and in return have simply received a bonus bet.

Doesn’t exactly seem like a great idea now does it?

Perhaps somebody far smarter than myself has devised a scheme to lay multis, but I hope that they are putting their minds towards something a bit better than that.

Who offers it?

The SRM multi offer is quite a common offer, and is periodically offered by most bookies. There are some corporate bookies that have them as a staple promotion, and these include:

  • Neds

  • Pointsbet

  • TAB

  • Ladbrokes

  • Betr

They are offered on both greyhound and thoroughbred racing, and I have never seen an odds requirement on any of them before. If there comes a day when that is required, then I would assume that matched betting has come to an end and this website would be useless.

Who is it for?

Like all multi promotions, I recommend this strategy for people with a large bankroll and a tolerance for risk.

There are days when things could be quite rough, as you may end up actually losing money if you win nothing and get no bet returns, so never wager more than you can afford to lose.

Without proper bankroll management, you can turn a good bet into an awful one by wagering too much on a single bet.

The positive expected value comes in over the long run, and you can’t expect each individual bet to yield results.

So if you want to make a profit, you have to be in the game long enough to realise it, and that really isn’t too long, so don’t go placing $50 bets on a SRM if you only have $500 in bankroll.

You may get lucky and double it, but you could also face reality and end up down $200 making any other matched betting activity difficult.

Instead, I would simply play it safe and let my bankroll grow through racing returns and signup bonuses. You will have plenty of time to tackle SRM promotions in the future.
